Cats and Dogs

Yes our dogs can be challenging when we come home each day tired from work. All three greet us with excitement, rushing at us with full force. They don't care if you are carrying your car keys or a breakable high valued item, they still charge you and eagerly great you at the door.

Our cat Charlie however has a different type of life. He likes to great us when he is hungry, wants that "every so often" rub or his new favorite thing happens about 2am when the house is very quiet and everyone is sleeping. It generally goes like this.

Two of our dogs sleep upstairs with us in our bedroom. We keep our door shut to keep them from meandering around the house at night or potentially going in one of our kids rooms and waking them up. So basically the door is closed. Charlie, our cat seems to think that he can pull our closed door open with his paw by sticking it under the door pulling with all his might and then letting it go. This is very similar to those people that try to get those Christmas deals at 4am in the morning at the retail stores. Pulling on the doors just to check if the store is open yet. Ah, yes. They can hear you inside, they know everyone is standing there, but the point is that the store doesn't open until 4am. Not 3:45am or even 3:50am. It's 4am people! Ok, well anyway the cat is like those people trying to get in but at 2am. And we are in the store knowing that it doesn't open until 6:30 am or sometimes even 7am. That is the rule Charlie!

So last night we went through the same routine and after opening the door, you think he would just run in the room but NO. He runs down the hallway and into our kids room laying on the floor purring as you pick him up. What is that all about?

After trying everything including stuffing clothes under the door to prevent him from getting his paws under there (yeah right), and splashing him with water as we opened the door (he ran too fast to get wet), I finally gave in and gave him some food downstairs. Funny thing is that I don't remember is that was the last time he banged on the door or if there were a couple more times. What a crazy cat and I personally am sitting here exhausted from getting up with my wife and trying different methods to stop him from making that noise. He best not come up with some new tactic tonight. I am bringing up the spray bottle and he will be one wet cat.

Lack of sleep really has a big effect on our daily life. I made it through the day today, and fortunately it was a rest day for running so no running this afternoon for me. All the more reason to get in your nutrition and keep your immune system functioning properly. Get your rest and don't let your cat keep you awake.

Oh yeah, the dogs. They were sort of lost in the story, but they just slept right through the whole thing. Didn't really budge until the normal time that they were supposed to wake up. They have internal alarm clocks I think and really I just love my dogs. They are the best!

Time for bed!

Nite all,
